Giveaway - pack of 100 EPP paper templates family pack by Tales of Cloth

Hand sewing is back in a big way. You may have noticed the popularity of EPP (English Paper Piecing) patterns over the past few years.  Willyne Hammerstein's Book Millefiori Quilts sold out everywhere due to the popularity of the La Passacaglia Quilt on the cover.    A quick look on Pinterest will show you just how good this quilt can look in modern styled fabrics .
Paper pieces has a starter and a full set if you don't feel like making your own templates and they also have kits to go along with Katja Mareks New Hexagon.  The paper templates for the New Hexagon are much bigger than the tiny La Passacaglia templates and make it easier to sew with a running stitch rather than the EPP method of folding fabric over a paper template.  The gripping movement required to hold the pieces and whip stitch sew them together can be tough on the hands!  Tracing around the template and sewing with a running stitch is apparently what Willyne uses to make her tiny pieces!

On Katya's blog there were quilt a longs in 2015and 2016 using blocks from her book and she is doing another using her perpetual calendar of 365 Hexagon blocks.  I think this would make a brilliant 365 project and could be fun to attempt to make one a day!

Jodi at Tales of Cloth has also created a set of shapes that all work together and hosted a challenge on instagram #shapefamilychallenge and it is really cool to see what people have come up with.

And we have 1 packet of family shapes to giveaway here on the blog!

To win this pack of 100 shapes just leave us a comment telling us if you have ever tried EPP before and what would you make with this set?

Entries close at 5pm next Thursday, 13th October, when Random number generator will pick the winner !

Giveaway - Crafted Applique, New Possibilities by Lara Buccella

We have a giveaway today!  Full disclosure, Lara is a friend of mine on blogland who has written a new book about a making no fray applique - you don't have to needle turn!  Fusible paper can give you frayed edges but Lara's method gives a really neat finish and its washable!
Last year I did a mug rug swap with Lara and she made me this amazing mini of my two dogs Charly and Wilbur!
The detailing is amazing and the little bits of fabric she used to get Wilbur's colouring and Charly's scarf is brilliant!  This lives above my sewing machine in the kitchen and I get to look at it every day!
I used Lara's method when I was making a glow in the dark mini quilt of Darth Vader for a May the 4th be with you swap on Instagram. It made the tiny cuts possible on the face and breastplate to give expression and detail to my Lego inspired mini quilt!

The things you can do with this method really are endless.  There is a blog hop going on at the moment - check this post our from Judy @ Quilt Paradigm to see what you can do with fussy cutting printed fabric and using Lara's technique to layer up some fabulous prints to create a whole new collage.

I have a copy of the book to giveaway here and tomorrow, Tuesday, will be giving away another copy on my blog so you can visit for 2 chances to win if you like!

Please leave me a message below telling me what applique project you would next like to make.  Random number generator will choose on Wednesday morning and a free copy of  Crafted Applique -New Possibilities will be posted out to the winner by Friday.

Giveaway!

Good morning Modern Quilters Ireland!  The weather has turned decidedly frosty and in an effort to combat the January blues we are having a giveaway to members on the blog today.   Whether you are on a fabric diet or  happily spending in the January sales you may want to have a look at our prize.

Last year we had a very successful sew in day in Galway and had some fabulous prizes donated to make our day extra special.  We have some still on hand and have been given extras so thank you to Fluffy Sheep Quilting, Lisnaweary Quilts, Pilot pens, The Crafters Basket, Vibes and Scribes and Liz's Longarm service for our prizes today.

We have 4 identical prizes made up of issue 10 of Love Patchwork & Quilting, Frixion pen, Charm square packs, a Fat Quarter of quilting cotton fabric and vouchers to be won.  To enter please leave a comment on the blog answering this simple question.

What is your most favourite, must have,  cannot make a quilt without it, notion or sewing tool?
(And it can't be your sewing machine!  Tell us what should be on the top of our shopping list for the January sales.)

The giveaway will close on Friday at 12 noon and Random number generator will choose 4 winners.

A Contest! Name our quilting bee

Are you looking for the sign ups for the mini-quilt swap with the Atlanta MQG?  Just go here....

We are absolutely thrilled with the incredible response to our MQG of Ireland quilting bee.  But saying "MQG of Ireland Quilting Bee" when we talk about our bee is just painful.  We need a great name.  A fun name.  An inspiring name.

Will you suggest one or two?

For the winning name(s) we have a fabulous giveaway from Pippablue in Galway.  If you have not visited their shop or blog before, I suggest you do so as quickly as possible.  They have a gorgeous array of quilting fabrics, yarns, embellishments, books, personalised baby blankets, etc.  Get.On.Over.There.  But what are they offering to our contest winner?

Yum!  Theses gorgeous 4 fat quarters of polka dot poplin AND a 36x90 inch piece of batting.  The name ideas are coming to you now, aren't they?  What's more is that Pippablue is offering a 10% discount on batting orders for MQG Ireland members.  This batting normally retails at €12/yard and is 90 inches in width.  Just ring Pippablue blue when placing the order so they know to add the discount: +353 91 566972.  Order yours quickly!

So, to enter your name suggestion, just leave a comment below.  We'll ask Eva and Ger of Pippablue to choose a winner by next Friday, 27th of April.

Good luck!
